This week, we got to share with our friends at Salon Pink Hawaiʻi supporting their event through our baked goods!

We used our grant money to hold a Zumba Gold class and light luncheon for our kūpuna at the Puna Hongwanji, Sangha Hall.

We experienced life on a Natural Process Farm, working alongside farmer Howard to learn hands-on farming techniques and helping Kerry prepare a seasonal farm-to-table meal. After the workday was pau, we came together in community to share the meal and celebrate the land.

I pounded poi from my māla and shared it with my neighbors, ‘ohana, and kūpuna. I also hosted friends at my home to learn how to harvest, huli, and plant kalo, as well as how to pound it and turn it into pa‘i ai or poi. We cooked food to share and enjoyed it together with the fresh poi.

The Puna Ola Core Team launched its first imu and lūʻau on Saturday, Sept. 27th, celebrating the first three months of our work to create Puna Ola: A Community Resource Hub. This gathering marked the beginning of our monthly imus and lūʻaus to bring the community together around this project.

Create a movie night event with games & food for get to know the community and neighbors.

First time baking Pumpkin Butter Mochi—shared it (and some fruits and veggies) with friends, family, and neighbors! Definitely doing that again!

My family and I harvested bananas from our farm, baked banana bread, and picked up bulk snacks and local fruit to share with keiki in our community. I brought them to the aunty down the road who runs a low-cost in-home daycare, as well as to the neighborhood kids across the street.

Puna

Keiki and ʻōpio from our VibeHI project shared aloha with first responders by making heartfelt cards and sweet treats.

Get together with friends, neighbors, and family with our keiki. Our keiki would teach a dance or song to other keiki.

Our original project was to teach lei making at our house. We ended up not only doing lei making, we also harvested and shared oranges, lemons, avocados, papayas, bananas, and tomatoes that we grew/gathered.

Our VibeHI day project was sharing a meal with family and friends. We had a picnic at the beach which consisted of pizza, fruits, & drinks, and then we did a beach clean up with our keiki.

My #VibeHI day project was making hygiene care packages for the elderly people in our apartment building. I also gave some to the homeless people in downtown Hilo.

My #VibeHI Day Project was a classroom snack station that provided free snacks for all of my students during the school day. The project gave them an energy boost, supported learning, and created a bright spot of connection in our classroom.

Our aloha folk clothing swap was a heartwarming community gathering where friends and neighbors came together to share gently loved treasures. Enjoy music, sweet treats and tea, and connect in the spirit of aloha.

I created a workshop titled, "Farmer for a Day – Creative Simulation & Community Dialogue" to engage community members in understanding the real challenges and opportunities of local farming in Hawaiʻi. This workshop sparked conversation about creative, community-driven, and legislative solutions to strengthen food security and reduce import reliance.

Kona

To gather with neighbors share some cultural food and talent, we learned what it means to live aloha amongst neighbors.Created some "positive" affirmation cards that later gave to each and everyone.

Put fresh rock on gravel road. This will allow all the neighbors to drive easier.

We shared how to easily construct a 72-hour Grab-and-Go bag at the Alii Kai Community Center.

Good neighborhood day aloha meet and mingle. We had fresh flowers to make bouquets, thank you cards, potluck, magic sand resilience hub presenting and encouragement to exchange contact information to build community!

The ʻAhahui Kaʻahumanu Helu ‘Ekolu is a benevolent society founded in 1864 by Princess Kamamalu. We gathered together on #VibeHI Day to create beautiful, handmade lap blankets as Christmas gifts for the residents of Hale ’Anuenue.
